2022年7月，土耳其伊斯坦布尔区块链经济峰会成功举办，此活动是欧亚大陆最大的区块链经济会议之一。受到萨尔瓦多和中非共和国将比特币作为其法定货币的影响，以比特币为代表的加密货币在新兴市场中的关注度迅速提高。因此，本届峰会对新兴市场经济发展格外关注。
新兴市场对比特币的采用是伊斯坦布尔区块链经济峰会活动第一天的重点关注点，呼吁关注比特币的个案使用，以最大限度地扩大比特币影响。
在为期两天的峰会上，来自加密货币生态系统的知名企业起机构负责人汇聚一堂，世界上拥有最多的比特币的MicroStrategy公司首席执行官、比特币支持者迈克尔·塞勒等人也在峰会活动的演讲嘉宾名单中。
加密货币交易所AAX全球市场营销副总裁本·凯瑟琳(Ben Caselin)，在结束他关于“比特币聪本位(SATs)标准和新兴市场的采用”的主题演讲之后，接受了国际知名区块链媒体Cointelegraph的采访。
本·凯瑟琳认为，关注比特币在新兴市场发展拥有基础逻辑支撑是十分重要的，考虑到新兴市场人口总人数占全球总人口的85%，约为60亿人，比特币现阶段的的大规模采用必将成为趋势，但在现阶段却并不现实，而主要是因为不同国家面临着截然不同的情况。
"尼日利亚央行(CBN)发行了该国央行数字货币(CBDC)项目 ，当地居民正在使用一个非常复杂的银行系统，但实际上并没有很好的帮助到他们。但我们观察发现了一个有趣的现象，就是当地的居民更关心的是非政府机构发行的比特币。"
本·凯瑟琳还补充了另一个来自阿富汗的有趣案例。阿富汗第一位女性科技CEO Roya Mahboob使用比特币支付她的Citadel软件公司员工工资，作为该国妇女在获得银行账户方面所面临障碍的一个解决方案，成为世界“头条新闻”。
新兴市场也面临着一些挑战和问题，主要的原因来自加密货币公司和服务提供商努力解决那些不熟悉比特币、稳定币或去中心化金融(DeFi)协议的用户的了解并使用。关注一个国家或一群人的特有需求，往往是加速采用的主要动力。
“本地的货币贬值、波动性大，如果你也有同样的担忧和困扰，那就说明本地的法定货币确实质量不高，或许这就可以成为我们探讨比特币采用的开始。”
本·凯瑟琳认为，加密货币已经走出了2009年和2019年长达十年的生命周期的新兴阶段的区间。他认为加密货币与互联网的阶段早十分相似，当年杰夫·贝索斯因为他的在线书店而受到嘲笑，最终成为目前电商巨头的亚马逊。
本·凯瑟琳强调，进入采用阶段要求加密货币行业更加成熟。最近的市场动荡，是由于Terra(LUNA)——现在改名为Terra Classic(LUNC)生态系统的崩溃以及少数加密货币借贷和对冲基金的失败而加剧，使该因素显得更加重要。
“如果比特币没有帮助阿富汗的妇女，或古巴的人民，或尼日利亚的无银行账户群体，或许比特币也没显得那么有趣!”
来自加密机构Chainalysis的数据支持了本·凯瑟琳的判断，即新兴市场更关注像比特币这样的 “传统”加密货币，而来自发达经济体的机构投资者则推动了近期对由DeFi驱动的更复杂资产和产品的投资。
